Nestled in the Lakes | Canandaigua, NY

The planning and design of this house accomplishes a meandering style journey down the steep terrain to the lake below.

Project Details

This Canandaigua Lake custom timber frame raze and rebuild was designed to accomplish two tasks.  The first was to create a place where three generations of family could come to enjoy each others company and the second was to soften the existing vertical circulation path from driveway down to the lake.  For the first solution we designed a single story ranch home with a walk out basement.  The homes center is where the main living core is located with a vaulted great room, kitchen, dining area, deck, recreation room and grade level patio.  The central core on both levels is flanked by bedrooms and private spaces.  This interior organization provides large common areas for the family to congregate and smaller private areas for people to get away.  The second design task was solved by splitting the vertical transitions with different program elements.  This way the journey from the driveway down to the waters edge has different stopping points, each of these stopping points have a special view and allow a reprieve from the journey.
