‘Y’ House | North Carolina

A site specific shape creates various vantage points to take in the dramatic view across the valley.

Project Details

Positioned high on a hill overlooking an expansive valley below this house responds to its natural topography and shape.  A simple low lying structure and minimal material pallet does not contend with the properties appeal.  The house is shaped like a ‘Y’ where each leg has its particular pragmatic elements, living, sleeping and organizing.  The entryway graciously brings you into the open plan living space that is organized by the interacting timber frame structure above.  An adjacent shop and barn are in line with the mudroom and laundry room wing and allows the structure to great you as you come out of the woods and into the clearing on the driveway.
